Do Doctors Participate in Hormone Replacement Therapy? Yes, I Do.

Welcome to our Advanced Hormone Therapy blog. We knew when we started this blog we should begin at the most obvious point in the journey: with my story and how bio-identical hormone pellet therapy improved my health, and thus my wife’s, my staff’s, and many of Ideal Medical’s patients. Allow me to share my quintessential “practice what I preach” experience.

When I turned 40 years old, I was running my practice and meeting the demands of the day by working in excess of 40 hours per week, often seven days a week and consuming a lot of coffee to keep my efforts at peak performance. The problem was I felt old. I suffered from fatigue and didn’t feel as strong as I had been. These factors affected my motivation and a host of other daily activities.

I decided to take action to improve my health. I sought the help of a doctor who specialized in age management and hormone therapy. My lab results indicated my testosterone levels were in the lower end of the normal range. While my levels were still considered within the normal range, I was prescribed a dose of testosterone to elevate my levels into a range that would improve my symptoms. Initially, I used testosterone cream, and then moved to receiving injections once a week.

The best way to explain the outcome of the hormone therapy is to say, I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I didn’t feel that way anymore. My symptoms greatly improved. And for a period of time, getting weekly injections worked well, until I simply tired of the routine. Eventually, I stopped the therapy and returned to dragging myself through my day powered by coffee. I know that sounds odd for a doctor to say, but we are human too.

I have to thank my wife for the next step in my journey. While I had experienced the
benefits of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), it was my wife’s health
that focused my attention. She was experiencing menopausal symptoms and was using
creams, patches and supplements to improve her hormone levels. After being diligent
for a year of treatment, she still felt bad and her hormone levels were unchanged.

This was the turning point for me. After giving it some thought, I decided to look into
hormone pellet therapy, for both of us. We had to ask ourselves a few basic questions:

  • What testosterone, estrogen and other hormonal therapies were available to us?
  • Which hormone therapy methods were convenient and most effective?
  • Which doctors are trained to administer hormone pellet therapy?
  • Did we want to feel better?

Once we answered these questions, I decided to start bio-identical hormone pellet therapy. Practically speaking, I liked what it offered, which were pellets consisting of testosterone inserted into my body near my flank just above my beltline. As my body needed the hormone it was drawn from the pellet into my system. Each dose lasted a few months depending on my activity level. I didn’t have to wait months to experience an effect. Within two weeks I felt great. And it continued.

The results were so impressive I decided to complete the necessary requirements for certification allowing me to administer EvexiPEL bio-identical hormone pellet therapy to my patients. And my first patient happened to be my wife.

After struggling for a year with menopausal symptoms and low hormone lab results, within a week she had greatly improved. It changed her life, and it changed my life, and it changed our life together. Her motivation and willingness to improve her life was the impetus for establishing and growing the Advanced Hormone Therapy program at Ideal Medical. It’s a story that will continue.
