Title: Getting to Know Your Provider, Todd Stack, Physician Assistant – Certified
A Personal Note from Todd Stack, PA-C
People often ask me why I chose medicine. Ironically, the answer began when I was a child lying on an operating table.
Before a minor surgery, my physician asked if I wanted anesthesia or if I’d rather stay awake and watch the procedure. Most kids probably would have preferred to sleep through it. I couldn’t wait to see what was happening.
While my dad nearly fainted in the corner of the room, I was fascinated. The doctor smiled and told my father, “I think your son might be interested in medicine.”
He was right. Looking back, that curiosity never left me.
Throughout school and college I often found myself in situations where friends needed someone to remain calm during an emergency. Whether it involved an injury, illness, or simply helping someone think clearly during a crisis, I discovered that serving others came naturally.
That path eventually led me into emergency medicine, where I’ve spent much of my career caring for patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Emergency medicine taught me something that has shaped every patient encounter since:
People are never just their diagnosis.
Every illness affects a family, a career, relationships, hopes, and fears. Treating the medical problem is essential, but caring for the person experiencing it is equally important.
That philosophy is one of the reasons Ideal Medical at HOME means so much to me.
By visiting patients where they are most comfortable, we’re able to slow down, listen carefully, understand what truly matters to them, and build relationships that simply aren’t possible during many traditional office visits.
Medicine works best when patients feel seen, heard, and valued.
That’s the kind of care I hope every patient experiences in our at HOME practice.
Featured Story: A Life Built Around Service
Long before becoming a physician assistant, Todd learned lessons that still influence how he practices medicine today.
Growing up as a competitive soccer player, he credits his coaches with teaching him that being a leader is never about being the most important person on the team. Great leaders serve others, encourage those around them, and help everyone succeed together. Later, during college, mentors reinforced another lesson that became central to his life:
Serving others is one of life’s greatest callings.
Today, that same philosophy guides every patient interaction.
“I get paid to help other people,” Todd says. “That’s the best part of my job.”
It is a simple statement, but one that perfectly captures why patients often describe exceptional healthcare providers as those who genuinely care.
Family and Finding Balance
One of the most exciting parts of this new chapter is that Todd isn’t building Ideal Medical at HOME alone.
His wife, Erika Stack, PA-C, is also part of the practice.
Together they’ve worked side by side in emergency departments, participated in medical mission trips to Ghana and Cambodia, and have spent years serving patients both at home and abroad.
Outside of medicine, they also share another passion: adventure. The Stacks have completed triathlons and Ironman competitions together and have set a family goal of participating in an athletic event in every U.S. state.
For Todd, these experiences represent something larger than fitness.
“They give us opportunities to grow together instead of growing apart.”
That same commitment extends to family life. With children ranging from preschool age to adulthood including a daughter preparing to graduate from physician assistant school, Todd understands firsthand the challenges many families face while balancing careers, caregiving, and everyday life.
Part of the motivation behind creating Ideal Medical at HOME was also creating a healthier life for his own family. After years of working holidays, nights, and weekends in emergency medicine, Todd hopes this practice allows him to be more present for birthdays, school events, anniversaries, and the everyday moments that matter most.
As he puts it:
“My children are my legacy. Whatever good I do in this world, they’ll be my fingerprints that I leave behind long after I’m gone.”
Why Home-Based Medicine Changes Everything
Healthcare isn’t only about treating disease. It’s about understanding the environment where people actually live.
When providers visit patients in their homes, they gain insights that simply can’t be seen in a traditional exam room. Home-based care allows conversations to unfold naturally.
Patients often feel more comfortable discussing concerns about sleep, stress, nutrition, medications, mobility, family caregiving, emotional health, and the everyday challenges that affect their well-being.
These conversations help create care plans that fit real life—not just a medical chart. The result is healthcare that is personal, practical, and centered around the individual.
Our goal is to build a practice that truly becomes a “patient-centered medical home” model, and we feel there is no better place to do that than in a patient’s own home.
